Urban Exploration Photography – Dave Wilson – Friday 26th March 2021

Last night Dave Wilson from Whitehaven joined to show us his Urban Exploration Photography or ‘URBEX’. The motto of which is ‘Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints.’

His many images mostly explored old and abandoned industrial sites, but also pubs, cinemas, hotels and night clubs, mainly in this area. Some of these buildings were entered with permission, some without. He emphasised that in many cases great care needed to be taken because of the many possible risks that could be encountered from the state of the derelict buildings.

We explored the old Alcan, Marchon, Sekers and Kangol sites; the Park Nightclub, Moota Hotel and Nightclub, and the Park Nightclub in Whitehaven. Many of these buildings stirred many happy memories amongst several of the club members.

Other places explored included The Old Country Cub at Nethertown, Haig Pit, St. Bendict’s School, The Three Tuns in Whitehaven – complete with its blocked off mystery room!

Our thanks to Dave, who talked with great interest and enthusiasm about these buildings, bringing their past back to life. An evening which was enjoyed by all.
