Catherine Knee – Reality is Over Rated – Friday 18th December 2020.
Last night Catherine Knee joined us to give her presentation ‘Reality is Over Rated’. Catherine calls herself a photographic artist rather than a photographer because her images are usually heavily edited in photoshop and taken to extremes as suggested by the title of the talk. Her original shots often bear little resemblance to the final image.
She took us through her photographic journey from the first image of a red rose she entered into a club competition through to her now award-winning images.
Most of her images are portraits, and she spends a great deal of time working with the models to get the shots she wants. She quite often makes the costumes and spends an amount time getting access to the venues for the photographs. She took us through the sequence she follows to produce her images, from the RAW image straight out of the camera, through to her final edited image.
Many of her images end up having textured backgrounds, and these are often photographs of wallpaper samples from Amazon, which are then blended with the image using photoshop.
Our thanks to Catherine for an entertaining and interesting evening, which gave us much food for thought.
A reminder that the next club meeting will be on Friday 8th January when Gerald Chamberlain will be judging our 4th Open Competition (Creative). Entries for the landscape competition should also be submitted by that date.
We will be holding a further meeting on Tuesday 5th January at 7.30pm. Please let Brian know if you have an AV ready to show, and if there is anything in particular you would like to talk about.
Have a very Happy and Safe Christmas and let’s hope for a better 2021!
